Scale Model Titanic Sinking

Started something different just for fun. Got a 1/1200 scale model of Titanic and planning something ambitious. The idea is this model Titanic is sinking in a resin semi clear ocean while breaking up and illuminated from the inside. Because of the clear ocean this model can be viewed from both under water and above the surface. Here's some first pics.

Shishi Odoshi

I got some pieces of bamboo yesterday and remembered seeing once a "japanese bamboo water thing", turns out it's called a Shishi Odoshi. They are used to scare away animals that might be feasting off your crops. Relatively simple to make but the balance of the tipping piece in the center is quite critical. It also depends probably how hard it rains (I'm assuming it wil work when it rains, but you could just feed the thing with a pump in a pond) how well this will work. Tomorrow we should get some rain so Im curious to see if it works then. In the meantime watch a video of the Shishi Odoshi in action.

Corinthian Helmet Pendant/Charm

The helmet I made last time was nice, but this time made something flat so it will hang better around someone's neck. Again in greek style but hope to do others as well soon. So stay tuned for more.

More Medieval Stuff: Brass Helmet Pendant

Continuing from the flail I made, again started with a brass half sphere and then decided to make a "Corinthian" helmet, came out better than I expected.

Scale Model Flail

This is what you get when you watch Game of Thrones and have some brass lying around: a scale model flail ready to do battle in the nearest dollhouse :) Was fun making this, never made a brass ball from sheet material before, chains were nice job too, didn't think this would work with such small pieces of brass, but then again, circular brass chainlinks would have been the real challenge, these are just triangular in shape and bent shut, no soldering used on the chain. Brass was put in ammonia to get that dark look (and some blue). If you're interested in this let me know. I'm getting quite interested in medieval weapons now, who would have thought!

New Try at Knife Handle

I've just finished another knife handle. It's a plain vegetable knife from the supermarket but this time it's all about the handle. Compared to previous ones this one is quite fancy. It has a wooden part and an epoxy part. Also known as Micarta in the business, I made this myself: layers of fabric soaked in epoxy create a wonderful and tough handle material, semi translucent like ivory or bone. Another first is the brass pin in the shape of a bullseye, layered brass and red plastic tubes fused together with epoxy. Hope you enjoy it.

New Skinner Knife

Hi there,

Haven't had much time to update but here's some photos from a new knife I'm working on. The handle is made from chestnut wood I've been told, here being glued up ready for shaping and sanding. On the end of the handle is gonna be a brass pipe for hanging the knife with a piece of string or leather. Be sure to see how it turns out.
